Hearing Loss Explained: Sensorineural, Conductive & Mixed
Hearing loss is a thief, affecting communication, quality of life, and social connections. RCHI Pak specializes in detecting and managing all types of hearing loss to help you regain hearing health and live a better life. Understanding the types of hearing loss is the first step toward effective management, detection, and treatment.
What Is Hearing Impairment?
Hearing impairment, also called hearing loss, is a condition that affects your hearing system in one or both ears. This can be temporary or permanent. The ear is made up of three parts: the outer, middle, and inner ear. It can develop at any age and might be congenital (existing at birth) or acquired later in life. Any disturbance in the ear’s parts can cause hearing loss.
Types of Hearing Loss
Conductive Hearing Loss
Conductive hearing loss happens when sound waves are unable to reach the inner ear due to an issue with the outer or middle ear. This type of hearing impairment results from blockages, infections, or structural abnormalities. Consult us today for a checkup.
Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) arises when sound does not reach the inner ear due to damage to the auditory nerve. SNHL affects the ear’s capacity to send sound impulses to the brain, in contrast to conductive hearing loss. It causes more than 90% in adults.
Mixed Hearing Loss
Mixed deafness refers to both conductive and sensorineural hearing loss at the same time. It means damage has occurred in the outer/middle ear and the inner ear or auditory nerve. It may be caused by trauma, age-related changes, genetic conditions, and chronic ear infections.
Hearing Loss in Children
Hearing is crucial to a child’s speech, linguistic, cognitive, and social development. Even modest or partial hearing loss in early life can cause delays in learning and communication, compromising a child’s academic achievement and emotional well-being. RCHI Pak offers specialist pediatric audiology services to detect and treat pediatric hearing loss as early as possible. We employ child-friendly and non-invasive approaches to assess hearing in infants and toddlers.
